TCS– From the Beginning to the Present

TCS was birthed with a vision to elevate the authority of scripture to its proper place and to teach it in purity and simplicity. This fellowship that began as a verse by verse, through the Bible house church in February of 2000, began to embark on a journey of transition by 2002.

What transition? Hebrew roots. TCS started learning about the Hebraic origins of our faith. As we began this journey the scriptures started fitting together like never before! Viewing the Bible through the Hebraic lens in which it was written, was bringing it into a clearer focus on all levels of study but especially in the study of our Jewish Messiah, Yeshua (Jesus).

His teachings began to make more sense when comparing them to the Rabbinic thought and customs of His day. We began to see analogies and shadows of Messiah everywhere. We saw Him in the Tabernacle, we saw Him in the sacrifices. We saw Him in the feasts of the Lord mentioned in Leviticus 23; in the Sabbath , the New Moon, the Passover, Unleavened Bread, First Fruits etc. We saw Him in everything!

This was really cool, but, then it happened...the obvious question; Are we only to learn about the festivals and commandments of the Lord or should we actually be doing them? The answer to that question has led us to where we are today. We moved from being a Sunday morning church to a 7th day Sabbath congregation. We now endeavor to live our lives in accordance with all of the scriptures, from Genesis to Revelation, because we see that every word in it is relevant to us.

We endlessly affirm that we are only saved by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8-10) in the awesome work of Messiah on the cross and that we have no righteousness of our own (Titus 3:5). We never attempt to align our lives with His commandments in an effort to be saved, but rather because we are!

We simply want to be like our Master Yeshua (Luke 6:40). He is the focus of it all! In the course of this journey we have regrettably lost some folks along the way. Those who remain, admit that it isn't an easy path, but not for the reasons that one might suspect. You see, it is not that the commands of the Lord are a burden or too hard to do, as some would teach. On the contrary, Moses stated just the opposite when he said that they are not too hard for us (Deut. 30:11).

King David heartily agrees when he says that they are a delight (Ps.119:47). The difficulty is in being viewed as weird or strange by the majority of our brothers and sisters in the larger body of Messiah. Most of these fellow Believers don't understand what we are doing and usually aren't interested in finding out.

There is a tendency for them to keep us at a distance and to regard us with suspicion. This is both challenging and hurtful. We are aware that our perspective does not appeal to the masses, but the real question to ponder is this; is it in line with the word of God? We believe that it is.

So, that is where we are today. Still learning, still being challenged, still failing and desperately needing His grace and still growing. You are welcome to come and join us on this path of discipleship to our Lord Yeshua. Like us, you may find that the journey isn't easy, but as the old song says, we wouldn't take anything for it!

Shalom
